Personal Kanban for Improved Personal Performance

Introduction: 
Are you or people in your organization feeling overwhelmed with their workload? Do they feel they are not getting the results they want from the actions they are taking? Does everything seem urgently important? This workshop is for individuals who want to create more value for their organizations and themselves through improved personal performance. It is based on the popular book Personal Kanban by Jim Benson and Tonianne DeMaria Barry. Participants will receive a copy of the book.
Learning Objective(s): 
  1. Apply visualization techniques to create a personal work flow.
  2. Explain the costs of too much work in progress and how to lessen impact.
  3. Adjust personal board as needed to model changes in personal life.

  1. Get started
    • Organize people by Kanban experience, roles
    • Prioritize learning objectives
    • Introductions
  2. Explore a model for personal effectiveness. Participants get hands-on, relevant knowledge by evolving their own personal board as each topic is explored:
    • Introduction to visualizing work
    • Moving towards balance - prioritize work so the important isn’t crowded out by the “urgent”
    • Limit work in progress - understand impact and how to lessen
    • Juggle different types of work
    • Long term planning
    • Minimizing interruptions - Pomodoro technique
    • Continuous improvement - taking time to reflect
  3. Project: Build the personal Kanban board you will use immediately outside the workshop
  4. Q&A
  5. Wrap-up: evaluation, celebration of what was learned
Audience: 
General audience – anyone interested in improving personal performance, in learning about Kanban. No prerequisites.
